Looking at Miniz's (as vendored by GearSystem, the Sega Master System emulator) Deflate compression fastpath...
It repeatedly computes some positions into a ring buffer, copies data over to the ringbuffer in a loop, checks if there's enough remaining data to continue compress it, then initiates 2 inner loops.
The 1st looks up entries in a hashmap whilst overwriting that entry with the current position, & either counts matching chars or record a failed lookup whilst incrementing frequencies.

After tweaking the arguments flushing a block involves considering outputting a bit-packed ZLib header, retrieving a few more properties from the state object, considers applying Huffman coding, considers the raw data or retrying that Huffmann-compression, considers outputting remaining bits & an Adler32 hash in one of 2 ways, zeroes out some tables, & writes the data out.
If provided a "static" Huffman-codebook, it ensures that codebook's optimal & invokes a macro to write the data.

Dynamic codebooks meanwhile optimizes its Huffman table (from the gathered frequencies), performs some checks & copies, iterates over a count of "codesizes" to build a secondary tables handling unused symbols specially, runs another optimization pass, then outputs the table bits.
Either way it then iterates Lempel-Ziv-compressed data, carefully looking up the corresponding Huffman codes to output those bits.

I need to buy local transport tickets for someone visiting and I am so confused. I was only here for some months before Deutschlandticket and I had monthly tickets for the entire Rhein-Neckar area, I got a physical map in the Reisezentrum to be sure to not travel out of the area.
Now I need to buy 3 day-tickets for the same area and tickets from and to Karlsruhe Baden Baden airport. Both VRN and KVV use a honeycomb system, and there are different types of day tickets, with more expensive "city tickets" for HD or MA/LU. vrn.de/tickets/ticketuebersich…

Ich hätte mir auch nicht vorstellen können, dass ihr so handelt "weil es sich so gehört".
@LeelaTorres wenn sie nicht ganz so hoch sitzen, kann man sie recht einfach und unter deutlich weniger Protest vom Baum "pflücken" weil die nachts kaum noch was sehen, und auch müde und langsam sind (im Gegensatz zu tagsüber. Das eine Rennhuhn fängt wach so schnell keiner...).
Sobald die Rotte die Hackordnung ausgemacht hat, folgt man abends im Idealfall einfach der erfahrenen Leithenne, die bringt alle rechtzeitig ins Bett. Aber halt nur alle, die richtig dazu gehören.

I've seen a lot about archiving websites lately, i.e. making offline backups of something that's in danger of being taken down. But of course I can't find it again now that I might need the info 🙃
I just learned that a community I am a (paying) member of will be closing soon, and I would like to preserve all the knowledge that was available there.
It's all behind login, so just throwing it into the wayback machine is not an option.
The site is probably something wordpress-based... any ideas?

I noticed that the crawler does not use that much disk space (temporarily) & still writes the output to the external drive.
So having 5GB free is enough for multiple large crawls whose outputs are much larger...

With the disk utilization set to 98 it already works better.
However, at some point I had to cancel the crawling manually, because even though I tried to exclude the url that would log me out, I still always get logged out at some point because it seems to ignore the exclude o.o
Makes me almost wish I could just do all the clicking manually and have it save the content of every page I loaded... not sure if a tool like that even exists though :/
