I took a ride on #Florida ‘s Brightline. It was definitely better than driving from #Miami to #Orlando.

@NilaJones There's this robin here who keeps stopping to look at me through my window. Do you know what's up with that?

She hops around a bit, as if to get my attention, then looks at me when I look at her. Then I talk to her through the screen, and she'll hop up on the car or a piece of farm equipment and keeps looking. This will go on for a few minutes, then she leaves. I haven't fed her. She initiated contact out of the blue, though it's possible I talked to her first, earlier in the spring.

Last week when me and my son were sitting outside at the other end of the yard, she got our attention from the trees. Flapping and chirping from several positions. That might have been a distraction, maybe we were too close to her nest, but after we started talking to her, she just sat on the branch and watched us. She hasn't done that since, so I'm guessing it's not by her nest?

Die Uhr fiel auf Badfliesen, der Bodendeckel flog samt Uhrwerk-Block ab. Nun scheint in der Solarzelle (nicht im Uhrglas) ein Sprung zu sein. Weiß (!) jemand, ob die nun hin ist, noch eingeschränkt geht oder ganz funktionsfähig ist?

The Sega Master System (SMS) sound generator I've been studying an emulator of was comprised of 3 square waves & 1 noise wave. Which compared to Nintendo's console at the time this is less varied but *better* (the emulator goes to great effort to recreate imperfections!) shaped, though whether better-shaped sound waves matters depends on your taste.

The Japanese SMS also included an FM synthesis chip, which GearSystem provides an optional emulator for.

So how does this emulator work?

This YM2413 chip was an influential one from Yamaha, which pretty defined pop music of its era! It sounds great!

Oh.... It turns out the class that the class I thought was just buffering data abstracts this subsystem!

Augmented by numerous data tables, this emulator is initialized by populating yet more data tables, zeroing out its own properties, & setting a few properties to default frequencies.

There's a reset method setting properties to their reset state, & testing "register" writes.

To handle data output from the simulated Z80 CPU, it checks the least-significant bits of the "port" number to consider whether to set a 1byte "address" or to write a value to it. For the latter it branches over the top nybble of the address & maybe the bottom.

hex00 - hex07 is written into that index of the 0th row of an instruments table, before branching over that address again to dynamically adjust other properties to match.

It might load drumset instruments by setting properties to some magic numbers, and adjusting other values to match using some lookups & bit fiddling as per before. If the 10th least-significant bit of the rhythm property is set.

Or depending on which bits of the value are set it might enable a bit of the `key` property & maybe set `state` to `EG_DUMP`, or clears that bit whilst considering whether to set the state to Off or Release.

If the 10th bit of value isn't set...

It effectively clears the corresponding state. Though I'm not entirely clear what the code echoing that for loading the drumset does.

For hex-1_ & hex-2_ it takes the lower nybble (mod 9) as index into an index into the channels array & considers setting the lower byte of the 3 nybble `block_fnum` property or set the top nybble whilst (un)pressing keys, & if the `block_fnum` changed adjusts other properties to match according to (primarily) lookuptables.

For hex-3_ it takes the lower nybble as a channel index again, adjusts the slot's `TL` & `TLL` properties via some bitfiddling, adjusts them some more for rhythm mode with channels 7 or 8, or considers loading the specified instrument.

There's a method for the simulated Z80 to read the status property.

There's methods to add (de)serialization.

frühsommer

am hohen himmel plustern hohe wolkentürme
der ungstüme wind ist selten einmal still
sonnenstunden, regen und gewitterstürme
ich meine fast, der juni hält sich für april

die linden blühen und die felsenbirnen reifen
in vielen vogelnestern wächst die zweite brut
im grün das falbe reifender getreidestreifen
der waldsee schläft und träumt von sonnenglut

genießt das satte grün, bevor an hitzetagen
alles bezogen wird von einem grauen staub
einzig libellen noch über den ufern jagen

wenn alles tun langsam erstickt vom vielzuheiß
und spärlich schatten bietet nur der bäume laub
und man sich beinah sehnt nach schnee und eis
