Ich setze mich zu ihm, rede mit ihm - offenbar hört das Tier nicht mehr viel, sieht mich aber und lässt sich kraulen, wirkt aber weiter verloren.
Die Schnauze ist ganz grau, der Gang ein bisschen unsicher, aber gekrault zu werden tut ganz offensichtlich gut.
Ein bisschen später kommt der zugehörige Mensch raus, wir unterhalten uns kurz: sie ist ein Mädchen und mit 15 schon ziemlich alt.

Seemingly unrelated follow-on thought:
What if linking to someone's post sent them a notification, as if they'd been @mentioned? Assuming the account linking hasn't been Muted or Blocked by the account notified or their server, of course. And that it wasn't a DM.
Is the goal of linking to someone's else's post, instead of replying directly, ever to avoid that person being notified?

I feel like that might make replyguy problems even more prevalent.
Linking to someone's post could be a way of starting a new conversation that doesn't require them. Letting them opt back in only if they want to. Insulating the original poster from one's own followers.

True. But so is deleting their address from the reply before you start writing (I hope).
But thanks for the thoughtful response. I'm trying to get a sense of when and why people link instead of replying, and what might improve or inadvertently worsen the user experience of different kinds of fediverse interactions. Your reply is exactly the kind of feedback I'm after.

Eg imagine we had a Correct button that told the network we'd checked the facts in a post against their references, and they seemed to be true. Then we could build tools to surface posts that are widely marked as Correct.
There are lots of ways that kind of tooling could be used, or misused, but I think it's worth having a conversation about how we could leverage the wisdom of crowds here.
Given it a few tries, but just can't get into Decoding the Gurus. They go long, without ever getting as deep as much shorter, more tightly-edited podcasts. There's a lot of important facts they not only don't know but scoff at, which gets irritating.
For myself, I suspect I'd get better bang for buck timewise listening to the Naomi Klein interview they were playing clips from.

Without knowing the license in question this cannot be answered.
Licenses developed decades ago for use with software projects often require to include the full text of the license with the licensed product. That was a main reason for the creative-commons project. Licenses like GPL are not really good for use with media files. Creative-commons licenses only require the inclusion of a link to the text of the license.

I publish fotos on wikipedia. I use the very lenient cc-by-sa-4.0 license (see the articles by pluralistic Cory Doctorow on why to prefer this license). Every file at wikipedia has a description page that explains the license of the file. Nevertheless i include this information in the file meta data and add the information not once but in multiple ways including machine readable and human readable.
It doesn't stop re-users from both regularly eleminating the meta data from the file and ignoring the license. There are exceptions: "demokratisch-links.de" takes care of licenses and wordpress has a media plugin that handles attribution and gets it nearly right thereby automagically forcing wordpress blogs to nearly comply with licenses.
Commercial websites often re-encode images in the bandwidth optimized webp encoding and use the default of first removing all (copyright) metadata and then inserting an attribution of the webp-encoder-software used instead.
honestly I just did our résumé in HTML (+CSS). No need for templates, HTML behaves pretty reasonably out of the box.
But I'm also a webdev nerd and am already comfortable with no-framework HTML+CSS.

if you have no strong opinions and know some basic HTML, I highly recommend trying that! you can print to PDF in a browser to get your PDF export. HTML's great for documents, should have semi-reasonable defaults already and you can tweak it to your liking pretty easily.
If you want fancy things like a 2-column layout you can do that easily with CSS! (like I have two columns for our lists of all the programming languages and other similar shit we know.)
and CSS classes (and/or just targeting p or whatever) are like word processor paragraph styles except WAY easier to deal with,

@pid_eins it probably does not count much, but as one of the initial sceptics of #systemd I would like to fully apologize to you now. I love the scope and way in which systemd acts.
I might still not like the management style in which this was pulled through at times, but the result is awesome.
It kind of adjusted my assumption that many independent modules (which are not necessarily guided by the same architectural vision) working together is the best way to design complex systems.
