Very sad to see that botsin.space is closing 🙁

We welcome bot accounts on .art (and already have several!), with some caveats:

1) The bot must be related to the theme of the instance; art, creativity, literature, photography, etc. If in doubt, ask me 😀

2) Must be marked as a bot account from the profile settings;

3) If it's an image-posting bot, images must include alt text;

4) If your bot posts images made by others, you must have permission to post them (whether that means they're public domain or that you have permission from the owner), and the original creator *must* be credited.

5) Not a hard rule, but very recommended - have your bot default to posting in unlisted mode. That way you won't be posting automated content to the public feeds, and anyone who wants to see the bot's -

might also be worth clarifying that bots should give credit to art/photo sources as well

the alt text requirement kinda makes auto-steal bots less viable but it's worth explicitly mentioning

@clarfonthey Ooh yes - that's an important one. So used to nobody doing it on .art that I forgot it's still a thing XD

- content will follow it anyway. Your posts can still get boosted and will still show up as boosts. It's a more respectful way of posting bot content to a community where people-based interactions are valued highly. ❤

To move your account over, go to mastodon.art , choose 'create an account', read the rules and fill out the form. When your account request gets accepted, you can use the Migrate feature to move your account accross. :bob_ross:

Regarding point 4, I'd ask you to seriously reconsider such a lenient stance. This can be seen as a carte blanche/invitation for blatant, automated intellectual property infringement unless the image is Public Domain/CC-BY/CC0/Copyleft etc. 😕

Name credit does not replace proper licensing.

@silverlightandskin that was kinda the unwritten rule anyway, that people only post things they have permission to post (whether that means they're in the public domain or that they have permission from the owner), but yeah I should make it written to prevent assumptions!

Call it "occupational trauma," but when it comes to copyright, I am quite fond of explicitly stated rules. I've been bickering with bands/magazines etc. abusing their power on that issue for almost 15 years now, so I'd rather not extend that fight to anonymous Fediverse bots 😄 Sure, .art rules won't stop anyone from just stealing and reposting content, but with a clear statement from .art it won't even have an aura of being "tolerated."

Thanks for listening to my jaded ramblings 🫶

@shadowfals They weren't created by us, and I did message them both early on asking if they'd consider switching to unlisted posting.

Acin on .art

wait, I remembered I have a browser where I'm not logged so I could easily check.

Those accounts are still set for frequent public posts. I doubt anyone going to see those and believe this instance encourages bots to be set for unlisted posting. I've been wondering this whole time if they were created by the admin/moderator team.

@shadowfals I've just DMed them all and the creator again asking them to change the posting privacy of them both to Unlisted ^.^
