I admit I have been rather satisfied with my instance's firm stand on blocking interop with threads. (And bluesky, which is inconvenient but from an ethical standpoint I'm 100% good with)
Meta is ending third-party fact-checking shortly before President-elect Donald Trump nominates an FCC chairman who threatened to investigate the company over it.
This was brought to my attention by the lovely Yaseen, but evidently Facebook Chat has renamed their trans- and enby-themed chat options to 'harmless' variants. Co-opting the flags and taking them from our community. Isn't corporate pride great?
To quote Tailsteak, Facebook is for toy cows and racist uncles, and it's clear that's only intensified since. I see absolutely zero benefit in federating with them -- less than zero, really. It'd be a massive drain on moderators who've done this for a community project, and would only cause harm.
If you’ve not seen it, I suggest finding the video of Roger Waters responding to Zuckerberg’s request to the right to use Another Brick in the Wall. It’s very theraputic.
This is the text of the story.. but really the video does some justice:
BTW, I try not to even use the hijacked term /threads/. I say FBthreads™ to clearly distinguish that garbage from a generic term we use in everyday language without intent to refer to a fiefdom.
At the same time, I see no problem with grouping Cloudflared Mastodon and Lemmy nodes with FBthreads™, because it’s all centralised in exclusive corporate walled gardens. All such enshitified networks should be condemned together.
@davey_cakes mainly I just wanted to indicate that by explicitly saying that transpobia and racism is now allowed, #fedipact is now the same level of concern that Isolate Gab was
Given that 'everyone calls me the monarch' is the only way to test if someone is a monarch, you may have little choice in the current location (or existence) of the crown, your majesty.

forgive me for being an idiot, but it seems like this is a small step in the right direction? From what I’ve seen, the *current* Meta stance is to allow alt-right views and shadowban left-leaning accounts. The other thing he mentioned was removal of foreign intelligence bots, which from what I’ve seen mainly target antifascist posts (yuumei art’s protest pieces come to mind). Is there anything I’m missing?
@slink Did you actually watch the same video where he said that the election of Trump is an indicator that it's time to prioritize allowing more right-leaning speech and that they're going to remove restrictions on transphobic and racist content?

Zuck, noun: also verb: The product or action of the tracking algorithms that shape an Internet user's experience and online self, in particular on social media platforms like Facebook; derived from Zuckerberg, the last name of the founder of Facebook.
Sample usage: "The zuck is deep here." "l've been zucked"
Let us rightfully condemn and ridicule Zuckerberg shit ,but insure we all boycott all his operations and any corporations that support them. His corporations main value comes from ad revenues from his platform users: deny.
incase anyone is wondering, I'm saying that satirically.. or something. ^>^ cuz noone should try to tell someone else where they can or can't hangout on the free web. ^>^ it's open and welcome for everyone... Left, right, center, top or power bottom.
I'm always torn on this. Blocking large node can be detrimental to some users. For example, I've heard multiple times people from marginalised groups sticking to larger org platforms because there are disavantages to only use Mastodon. I wish we could have a more granular solution but I also understand the complexity of the problem.
I must have missed the point when fact checking became censorship - still you have to have some consideration for the Eye of Sauron - if 77 million people can’t tell their ass from a hole in the ground - why bother - just pocket the money and run.
