I didn't believe my wife when she told me Micky Dolenz from The Monkees had taught her a magic spell that turns people into dogs with a single stare. Then I saw her face, now I'm a retriever.

I'm a believer, I couldn't knead her if I tried.

PoS in Ethereum has similar returns on capital as other investments. Currently 2-3% per year. It scales with demand - there is a market mechanism at play.
Claiming that PoS inherently concentrates power in the wealthy misses the point - it mirrors the wider financial market which, yes, benefits the already wealthy.
This is a more fundamental problem that must be solved elsewhere.

And though a single validator is limited to 32 Eth minimum, pooled staking makes these 2%

...returns available to anyone, just as anyone can invest in stock funds. That alone doesn't make things "fair". Our markets, taxes, regulations still favour the wealthy.

PoW is also a capital intensive business and with more capital you can achieve higher returns due to economies of scale.

Ultimately these are fundamental issues with capitalist markets refracted through the lens of cryptocurrency generation and distribution.

Inequality will not be solved here.

@hyc @voxel @kkarhan

Als Antwort auf Aron Fischer

Noone claims that #Monero will help "#AbolishCapitalism"!

  • That would be deranged and in complete denial of reality.

What is however evident is that only #PostPrivacy #Shitcoins can do #ProofOfStake as unlike #ProofOfWork it inherently necessitates #PostPrivacy as in all transactions and amounts are public.

  • I'm pretty shure that #PoS cannot be implemented (even if #Monero devs wanted it to!) without making removing Monero's #privacy that it can retain under #PoW.

Again: I call it "least worst" for a reason; not "great", "good" or even "okay"...

PoW vs PoS has been debated ad nauseam already. PoS is unworkable for many reasons but most obviously because your stake is the number of coins you own. Publishing the number of coins you own defeats the purpose of Monero's confidentiality guarantees. It's a non-starter.

@cobordism @hyc IMHO the only thing that moving #Ethereum from #PoW to #PoS achieved is raising the wall to make it harder, more expensive amd less attractive for #SmallInvestors to fiddle with it.

Demondtrably, #EthereumClassic would at least be more trustworthy, alas that's an Opinion based off 'vibes'

  • Whether the PoS transition did save energy is debateable since #Ethereum uses #ASIC|s which makes it way more polluting due to these being useless for anything else. #Scalpers are shit but at the very least a #CPU or #GPU can be reused elsewhere…

@hyc @voxel

Als Antwort auf Aron Fischer

@cobordism @hyc It's called #mathematics, because #ASIC|s are simply manufactured #eWaste by virtue of being non-reuseable nor upcycle-able.

  • A #CPU or #GPU can at least be #reused for different tasks and even #upcycled to be used in #consumer chassis with an adequate cooling system.

Your reply indicates that you ain't aware of fundamentals like what an ASIC is, that producing ICs is inherently bad for the envoirment and that these are just bad per concept, thus you've disqualified yourself with the saneist reply from any discussion.

  • I'll give you a timeout of a few days. Feel free to sincerely apologize after that...

Packet is a Linux app that uses Android’s native Quick Share feature to exchange files

A smartphone screen displays an incoming file transfer from "Joe's phone," featuring options to accept or decline. Background in blue swirls.
“Anyone with an Android phone near your device can send/receive files to/from you via Packet. They don’t have to install an app on their device since the feature is built-in, and the Quick Share protocol uses end-to-end encryption for (relative) peace of mind.”

I have been using LocalSend up to now, which has worked well, but it does require the app to also be installed on the Android device. So for anyone visiting your home, for example, that is a bit of an extra step. Packet looks really low-friction and may fill the gap to wirelessly fling files, photos, videos and whatever else between Android and Linux devices.

There is a link to the open source GitHub project at the bottom of the linked article.

I like to advocate for (in the context of climate breakdown) organizing to help your neighbours to lower their carbon footprint as a way to make change.

Unfortunately it seems most westerners can't seem to comprehend change unless its enacted by those with power. Here's the thing: The politicians who want to enact your desired changes will have an easier time if its already happening from the ground up!

I think my audience will enjoy joining (or if necessary starting) a Repair Cafe, like I do!

I'm not following the Musk/Trump thing, but let me tell you this. In JANUARY my sister predicted exactly this outcome. Basically, two flaming narcissists can NEVER work together. They both must be on top and have the spotlight at all times, and that's just not possible. So, what was always going to happen was one of them got miffed about the other one, and then the narcissistic injury is too big and they MUST come out on top and all bets are off... anyone who thinks this is some kind of strategy
Als Antwort auf Daniel Lakeland

is just missing the proper psychological context here. This fallout between the two top narcissists of the world at the moment was inevitable and will go like two little 4 year olds at a playground when one of them broke the other one's toy. it's not an intentional distraction or 3D chess or whatever it's just what happens with this kind of personality.
